The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once stood among us and left out nothing that would happen between that moment and the coming of the Hour without informing us of it. Those who memorized it remembered it, and those who forgot it forgot it. These companions of his came to know it. Sometimes a matter slips from my mind, but then I recall it just as a man recalls another's face when he has been absent from him, and then recognizes him upon seeing him again.
حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة حدثنا جرير عن الأعمش عن أبي وائل
قام فينا رسول الله ﷺ قائما فما ترك شيئا يكون في مقامه ذلك إلى قيام الساعة إلا حدثه حفظه من حفظه ونسيه من نسيه قد علمه أصحابه هؤلاء وإنه ليكون منه الشيء فأذكره كما يذكر الرجل وجه الرجل إذا غاب عنه ثم إذا رآه عرفه
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Tribulations, chapter "The Prophet's ﷺ account of what will happen until the establishment of the Hour," hadith 2891, from Uthman bin Abu Shayba, and Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Divine Decree, chapter "And the command of Allah was a decree destined," hadith 6604, from the hadith of Amash, with the same wording.
