His grandfather Arfaja bin Asaad had his nose cut off at the Battle of Kulab, so he made a nose of silver, but it began to give off a foul smell. The Prophet ﷺ therefore instructed him to make a nose of gold instead.
حدثنا موسى بن إسمعيل ومحمد بن عبد الله الخزاعي المعنى قالا حدثنا أبو الأشهب
أن جده عرفجة بن أسعد قطع أنفه يوم الكلاب فاتخذ أنفا من ورق فأنتن عليه فأمره النبي ﷺ فاتخذ أنفا من ذهب
Its isnad is hasan. Tirmidhi transmitted it in the chapter on clothing, section on what has been said about binding teeth with gold, no. 1770, and Nasai, no. 5165, from the hadith of Abu Ashhab, through this route. Tirmidhi said, "Hasan gharib." Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1466.
