The Prophet ﷺ arrived in Mecca with four braids, meaning plaited locks of hair.
حدثنا النفيلي حدثنا سفيان عن ابن أبي نجيح عن مجاهد قال
قدم النبي ﷺ إلى مكة وله أربع غدائر تعني عقائص
[Its chain is daif] Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Clothing, chapter on the Prophet's ﷺ entry into Makkah, no. 1781, from the hadith of Sufyan through this route, and he said, "Gharib." Ibn Majah also narrated it, no. 3631, but Sufyan and Ibn Abu Najeeh used the ambiguous form "an" in transmitting it, and Bukhari said, "I do not know of Mujahid having heard directly from Umm Hani."
