The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "I do not ride on purple saddle-cloths, I do not wear garments dyed with safflower, and I do not wear a shirt trimmed with silk." Hasan pointed to the collar of his shirt as he said this. He continued, "The perfume suitable for men is one whose scent is noticeable but whose color is not, and the perfume suitable for women is one whose color is visible but whose scent is not."Saeed said, "I think he said that they understood his statement about women's perfume to apply only when she goes out. As for when she is with her husband, she may wear whatever fragrance she wishes."

أن نبي الله ﷺ قال لا أركب الأرجوان ولا ألبس المعصفر ولا ألبس القميص المكفف بالحرير قال وأومأ الحسن إلى جيب قميصه قال وقال ألا وطيب الرجال ريح لا لون له ألا وطيب النساء لون لا ريح له قال سعيد أره قال إنما حملوا قوله في طيب النساء على أنها إذا خرجت فأما إذا كانت عند زوجها فلتطيب بما شاءت
Its chain of transmission is daif. Ahmad narrated it, 4/442, from Rawh bin Ubada, through this route. Tirmidhi also narrated it, no. 2788, from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba, through this route, in an abridged form, and he said, "Hasan gharib." Hakim graded it sahih, 4/191, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Saeed, Qatada, and Hasan are all mudallis narrators, and they narrated using ambiguous transmission wording (an'ana).
