He reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed some cloaks but did not give Makhrama anything. So Makhrama said, "My son, come with me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." I went along with him. He said, "Go in and call him out for me." So I called him, and he came out wearing one of those cloaks. He said, "I set this aside for you."Makhrama looked at it. Ibn Mawhab added, "Makhrama looked at it," and then both narrators agreed, saying, "Makhrama was pleased."Qutayba narrated it from Ibn Abu Mulayka without naming him.
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد ويزيد بن خالد بن موهب المعنى أن الليث يعني ابن سعد حدثهم عن عبد الله بن عبيد الله بن أبي مليكة
أنه قال قسم رسول الله ﷺ أقبية ولم يعط مخرمة شيئا فقال مخرمة يا بني انطلق بنا إلى رسول الله ﷺ فانطلقت معه قال ادخل فادعه لي قال فدعوته فخرج إليه وعليه قباء منها فقال خبأت هذا لك قال فنظر إليه زاد ابن موهب مخرمة ثم اتفقا قال رضي مخرمة قال قتيبة عن ابن أبي مليكة لم يسمه
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Gifts and their Merit and Encouragement Toward Them, chapter on how a slave and goods are taken possession of, hadith no. 2599, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat, chapter on giving to those whose hearts are to be won over and those whose faith is feared for, etc., hadith no. 1058, from Qutayba with the same chain.
