The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to visit me with Ali , who was recovering from an illness. We had clusters of dates hanging up, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and began eating from them. Ali also stood up to eat, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept saying to him, "Stop, Ali, you are still recovering," until Ali
held back. She said, I then prepared some barley and chard and brought it to them, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Ali, take some of this, for it is more beneficial for you."
[Its isnad is hasan]. Reported by Tirmidhi in the Book of Medicine, chapter on what has been said about dietary restraint, no. 2037, and Ibn Majah, no. 3442, from the hadith of Abu Dawud and Abu Amir through the same route. Tirmidhi said, "hasan gharib," and Hakim graded it sahih (4/407), and Dhahabi agreed with him.
