The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from eating the meat of donkeys on the day of Khaybar and permitted us to eat the meat of horses.
حدثنا سليمان بن حرب حدثنا حماد عن عمرو بن دينار عن محمد بن علي
نهانا رسول الله ﷺ يوم خيبر عن لحوم الحمر وأذن لنا في لحوم الخيل
Bukhari narrated it in the book of military expeditions, chapter on the Battle of Khaybar, no. 4219, from Sulayman bin Harb. And Muslim narrated it in the book of hunting and slaughtered animals, chapter on the permissibility of eating horse meat, no. 1941, from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd, with the same wording.
