The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you eats, let him mention the name of Allah the Exalted. If he forgets to mention the name of Allah the Exalted at the beginning, let him say, 'In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end.'"
حدثنا مؤمل بن هشام حدثنا إسمعيل عن هشام يعني ابن أبي عبد الله الدستوائي عن بديل عن عبد الله بن عبيد عن امرأة منهم يقال لها أم كلثوم
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال إذا أكل أحدكم فليذكر اسم الله تعالى فإن نسي أن يذكر اسم الله تعالى في أوله فليقل بسم الله أوله وآخره
[Its chain of transmission is sahih]. Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Foods, chapter on what has been said about mentioning Allah's name over food, hadith no. 1858, from the hadith of Hisham Dastawai, with this wording, and he said, hasan sahih. Ibn Majah also narrated it, hadith no. 3264, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith no. 1341, as did Hakim, 4/108, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
