He used to say, "The worst food is the food of a wedding feast to which the wealthy are invited while the poor are left out. Whoever does not respond to the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger."
حدثنا القعنبي عن مالك عن ابن شهاب عن الأعرج
أنه كان يقول شر الطعام طعام الوليمة يدعى لها الأغنياء ويترك المساكين ومن لم يأت الدعوة فقد عصى الله ورسوله
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on Marriage, in the section "Whoever neglects an invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger," hadith no. 5177, and Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Marriage, in the section on the command to accept an invitation to a feast, hadith no. 1432, both from the hadith of Malik through this same chain, and it is found in the Muwatta (Yahya's recension), 2/546.
