The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever issues a religious verdict..."Sulayman bin Dawud also narrated to us, saying Ibn Wahb informed us, Yahya bin Ayub narrated to me, from Bakr bin Amr, from Amr bin Abu Numah, from Abu Uthman al-Tunbudhi, the foster brother of Abdul-Malik bin Marwan, who said, I heard Abu Hurayrah say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever is given a verdict without knowledge, the sin of it falls upon the one who issued it."Sulayman al-Mahri added in his version, "And whoever advises his brother on a matter knowing that the right course lies elsewhere has betrayed him."This is the wording of Sulayman.
حدثنا الحسن بن علي حدثنا أبو عبد الرحمن المقرئ حدثنا سعيد يعني ابن أبي أيوب عن بكر بن عمرو عن مسلم بن يسار أبي عثمان
قال رسول الله ﷺ من أفتى ح و حدثنا سليمان بن داود أخبرنا ابن وهب حدثني يحيى بن أيوب عن بكر بن عمرو عن عمرو بن أبي نعيمة عن أبي عثمان الطنبذي رضيع عبد الملك بن مروان قال سمعت أبا هريرة يقول قال رسول الله ﷺ من أفتي بغير علم كان إثمه على من أفتاه زاد سليمان المهري في حديثه ومن أشار على أخيه بأمر يعلم أن الرشد في غيره فقد خانه وهذا لفظ سليمان
[Its isnad is hasan] Ibn Majah related it in the Introduction, chapter on avoiding opinion and analogy, no. 53, from the hadith of Muslim bin Yasar through this route, and Hakim graded it sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs, 12/126, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
