Messenger of Allah, a man comes to me wanting to buy something I do not have. May I buy it for him from the market?He replied, "Do not sell what you do not have."
حدثنا مسدد حدثنا أبو عوانة عن أبي بشر عن يوسف بن ماهك
يا رسول الله يأتيني الرجل فيريد مني البيع ليس عندي أفأبتاعه له من السوق فقال لا تبع ما ليس عندك
[Its isnad is hasan] Tirmidhi transmitted it in Kitab al-Buyu, chapter on the dislike of selling what one does not possess, hadith no. 1232, as did Ibn Majah, no. 2187, and Nasai, no. 4617, from the hadith of Abu Bishr, by this route, and Tirmidhi said, "Hasan." It has other routes with Ibn Jarud, no. 602, and others.
