Abu Saeed Khudri reported,

A group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out on a journey and stopped at one of the Arab settlements, asking the people there to host them as guests. The people refused to offer them hospitality.Then the chief of that settlement was stung. They tried every remedy on him, but nothing helped. One of them said, "Why don't you go to that group who stopped here. Perhaps one of them has something that could help your chief."So they came to them and said, "Our chief has been stung, and we have tried every remedy, but nothing helps him. Do any of you have anything that could cure our companion?" meaning a ruqyah.One of the men said, "Yes, I perform ruqyah, but we asked you for hospitality and you refused. I will not perform ruqyah unless you set a payment for me." So they agreed to give him a flock of sheep.He went to the chief and recited Umm al-Kitab over him while spitting lightly, and the chief recovered as though he had been released from a bond. They then paid him in full the fee they had agreed upon.The companions said, "Let us divide it among ourselves."But the one who had performed the ruqyah said, "Do not do so until we come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and seek his instruction."The next morning they went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him what had happened. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How did you know it was a ruqyah? You did well. Set aside a share for me along with yourselves."

أن رهطا من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ انطلقوا في سفرة سافروها فنزلوا بحي من أحياء العرب فاستضافوهم فأبوا أن يضيفوهم قال فلدغ سيد ذلك الحي فشفوا له بكل شيء لا ينفعه شيء فقال بعضهم لو أتيتم هؤلاء الرهط الذين نزلوا بكم لعل أن يكون عند بعضهم شيء ينفع صاحبكم فقال بعضهم إن سيدنا لدغ فشفينا له بكل شيء فلا ينفعه شيء فهل عند أحد منكم شيء يشفي صاحبنا يعني رقية فقال رجل من القوم إني لأرقي ولكن استضفناكم فأبيتم أن تضيفونا ما أنا براق حتى تجعلوا لي جعلا فجعلوا له قطيعا من الشاء فأتاه فقرأ عليه بأم الكتاب ويتفل حتى برئ كأنما أنشط من عقال فأوفاهم جعلهم الذي صالحوه عليه فقالوا اقتسموا فقال الذي رقى لا تفعلوا حتى نأتي رسول الله ﷺ فنستأمره فغدوا على رسول الله ﷺ فذكروا ذلك له فقال رسول الله ﷺ من أين علمتم أنها رقية أحسنتم واضربوا لي معكم بسهم
