We used to engage in sharecropping during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He mentioned that one of his uncles came to him and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden us from a practice that was beneficial to us, but obedience to Allah and His Messenger is more beneficial and more profitable for us."We asked, "What is that?"He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever has land, let him cultivate it himself or let his brother cultivate it, but he must not lease it out for a third or a quarter of the produce, nor for a specified amount of food.'"
