I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Mecca before he migrated, with this hadith, but he did not mention weighing for a wage.
حدثنا حفص بن عمر ومسلم بن إبراهيم المعنى قريب قالا حدثنا شعبة عن سماك بن حرب
أتيت رسول الله ﷺ بمكة قبل أن يهاجر بهذا الحديث ولم يذكر يزن بأجر
[Its chain is sahih] Nasai transmitted it in al-Buyu, chapter titled "al-Rujhan fil-Buyu," no. 4597, from the hadith of Shubah through the same route. Hakim graded it sahih in 2/30, 31, meeting the standard of Muslim, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
