I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ relating this hadith. He said, "Between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever avoids doubtful matters keeps his honor and religion intact, and whoever falls into doubtful matters falls into the unlawful."
حدثنا إبراهيم بن موسى الرازي أخبرنا عيسى حدثنا زكريا عن عامر الشعبي قال سمعت
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول بهذا الحديث قال وبينهما مشبهات لا يعلمها كثير من الناس فمن اتقى الشبهات استبرأ عرضه ودينه ومن وقع في الشبهات وقع في الحرام
Documentation, Muslim narrated it, no. 1599, from the hadith of Isa bin Yunus, and Bukhari, in the Book of Faith, the chapter on the virtue of one who seeks clarity for the sake of his religion, no. 52, from the hadith of Zakariya, through the same chain.
