The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you follow a funeral procession, do not sit down until the bier is placed on the ground."
حدثنا أحمد بن يونس حدثنا زهير حدثنا سهيل بن أبي صالح عن ابن أبي
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا تبعتم الجنازة فلا تجلسوا حتى توضع
Its chain of transmission is sahih. The narration of Sufyan Thawri was reported by Bayhaqi: 4/26.
