The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A boy was born to me tonight, and I named him after my father Ibrahim." Then the narrator mentioned the rest of the hadith.Anas said, "I saw him struggling with the pangs of death in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the eyes of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ welled up with tears."He said, "The eye sheds tears and the heart grieves, but we say only what pleases our Lord. Indeed, Ibrahim, we are grieved by your loss."
Muslim reported it in the Book of Virtues, Chapter on his mercy toward children and dependents, his humility, and the merit of that, hadith no. 2315, from Shayban bin Farroukh, with the same wording. Its basis is found in Bukhari, hadith no. 1303.
