Nufayli is al-Khadir, but this is how he reported it.He said, I was in our land when banners and flags were raised before us, so I asked, "What is this?"They replied, "This is the banner of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."So I came to him, and he was beneath a tree, with a cloak spread out for him on which he was seated, and his companions had gathered around him. I sat down with them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then mentioned illnesses and said, "When a believer is afflicted with illness and Allah then relieves him of it, it serves as expiation for his past sins and as a warning for what lies ahead. But when a hypocrite falls ill and is then cured, he is like a camel whose owners tied it up and then released it. It does not understand why they tied it up, nor why they released it."A man among those around him said, "Messenger of Allah, what are these illnesses? By Allah, I have never been sick."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Get up and leave us, for you are not one of us."While we were with him, a man came forward wearing a cloak, with something wrapped up in his hand. He said, "Messenger of Allah, when I saw you, I set out toward you. I passed by a thicket of trees and heard within it the chirping of nestlings. I took them and placed them in my cloak. Their mother came and circled around my head, so I uncovered them for her. She landed upon them, and I wrapped them all up together in my cloak. Here they are with me."He said, "Put them down."So I put them down, but their mother refused to leave them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his companions, "Are you amazed at the compassion of this mother bird for her chicks?"They replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah ﷺ."He said, "By the One who sent me with the truth, Allah is more merciful toward His servants than this mother is toward her chicks. Take them back and place them where you found them, and their mother with them."So he returned with them.
