He set out for Hajj, and when he reached as-Suwayda, a man appeared who seemed to be searching for medicine and hududh. The man said, "Inform me of what you have heard."Someone who heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage, while he was admonishing the people, instructing them, and forbidding them, reported that he said, "People, accept the stipend as long as it remains a genuine stipend. But when Quraysh fight one another over kingship and it comes at the cost of your religion, then leave it."
حدثنا أحمد بن أبي الحواري حدثنا سليم بن مطير شيخ من أهل وادي القرى قال
أنه خرج حاجا حتى إذا كان بالسويداء إذا برجل قد جاء كأنه يطلب دواء وحضضا فقال أخبرني من سمع رسول الله ﷺ في حجة الوداع وهو يعظ الناس ويأمرهم وينهاهم فقال يا أيها الناس خذوا العطاء ما كان عطاء فإذا تجاحفت قريش على الملك وكان عن دين أحدكم فدعوه

[Its chain of transmission is daif] Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir 4/238 from the hadith of Sulaym bin Mutayyar, with this wording. He is lenient in hadith transmission, and his father is of unknown status (Taqrib), and there is an unknown man in the chain. Bayhaqi narrated it 6/359 from the hadith of Abu Dawud, with this wording.
