I was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the Eid al-Adha prayer at the prayer ground. When he finished his sermon, he came down from his pulpit and a ram was brought to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slaughtered it with his own hand, saying, "In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest. This is on my behalf and on behalf of those of my ummah who have not offered a sacrifice."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا يعقوب يعني الإسكندراني عن عمرو عن المطلب
شهدت مع رسول الله ﷺ الأضحى بالمصلى فلما قضى خطبته نزل من منبره وأتي بكبش فذبحه رسول الله ﷺ بيده وقال بسم الله والله أكبر هذا عني وعمن لم يضح من أمتي

Tirmidhi collected it in the Book of Sacrifices, chapter on what one says when slaughtering, no. 1521, from Qutayba, with this chain.Muttalib bin Abdullah stated explicitly that he heard it, as recorded by Tahawi in Maani al-Athar, 4/177.The hadith has corroborating narrations in Hakim, 4/229, and elsewhere.Amr here is Ibn Abu Amr.
