Mujash, of the tribe of Banu Sulaym, had a need, and sheep had become scarce. So he ordered a caller to announce that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, "A jadha can fulfill the requirement that a thani fulfills."

Sourcing, [sahih]. Ibn Majah narrated it in the Book of Sacrifices, chapter on what suffices as a sacrifice, hadith 3140, from the hadith of Abdul-Razzaq, and Hakim graded it sahih in 4/226.Thawri did not narrate it alone, and the hadith has many corroborating narrations with Nasai, hadith 4388, and others.
