When the Prophet ﷺ wished to be intimate with a woman during her menstruation, he would place a cloth over her private area.
حدثنا موسى بن إسمعيل حدثنا حماد عن أيوب عن عكرمة
أن النبي ﷺ كان إذا أراد من الحائض شيئا ألقى على فرجها ثوبا
[Its chain is hasan] Ibn Hazm narrated it in Al-Muhalla (2/182) from the hadith of Abu Dawud, through the same route.
