The verse "You who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you" [Nisa 4:59] was revealed concerning Abdullah bin Qays bin Adi, whom the Prophet ﷺ dispatched on a military expedition. Yala informed me of this from Saeed bin Jubayr from Ibn Abbas.

{يا أيها الذين آمنوا أطيعوا الله وأطيعوا الرسول وأولي الأمر منكم} في عبد الله بن قيس بن عدي بعثه النبي ﷺ في سرية أخبرنيه يعلى عن سعيد بن جبير عن ابن عباس
Recorded by Muslim, Book of Leadership, chapter on the obligation to obey rulers in matters that are not sinful and the prohibition of obeying them in sin, hadith no. 1834, from Zuhayr bin Harb, and by Bukhari, Book of tafsir, Surah Nisa, chapter, "Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you," hadith no. 4584, from the hadith of Hajjaj bin Muhammad, with the same chain.
