I was a young boy who used to throw stones at the date palms of the Ansar to knock down their fruit. I was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, who asked, "Young man, why do you throw stones at the palms?"I replied, "To eat from them."He said, "Do not throw stones at the palms. Eat what falls beneath them."Then he wiped my head and said, "Allah, fill his belly."
حدثنا عثمان وأبو بكر ابنا أبي شيبة وهذا لفظ أبي بكر عن معتمر بن سليمان قال سمعت ابن أبي حكم الغفاري يقول حدثتني جدتي
كنت غلاما أرمي نخل الأنصار فأتي بي النبي ﷺ فقال يا غلام لم ترمي النخل قال آكل قال فلا ترم النخل وكل مما يسقط في أسفلها ثم مسح رأسه فقال اللهم أشبع بطنه
Its chain of transmission is daif. Ibn Majah narrated it in the Book of Trade, chapter "One who passes by people's livestock or an orchard, may he eat from it?" (hadith no. 2299), from the hadith of Mutamir bin Sulayman, with this wording. It is also found in Musnaf Ibn Abu Shayba (6/81, 82).Ibn Abu Hakam Ghifari is of unknown status, and there is another daif route for it in Tirmidhi, hadith no. 1288.
