He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Cities will be conquered for you, and there will be armies mobilized from which expeditions will be assigned to you. A man among you will dislike being sent on such an expedition, so he will slip away from his own people and go around inspecting the tribes, offering himself to them, saying, 'Who will I serve in place of for such-and-such expedition? Who will I serve in place of for such-and-such expedition?' Know that such a man is a hired worker down to the last drop of his blood."
حدثنا إبراهيم بن موسى الرازي أخبرنا ح و حدثنا عمرو بن عثمان حدثنا محمد بن حرب المعنى وأنا لحديثه أتقن عن أبي سلمة سليمان بن سليم عن يحيى بن جابر الطائي عن ابن أخي أبي أيوب الأنصاري
أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول ستفتح عليكم الأمصار وستكون جنود مجندة تقطع عليكم فيها بعوث فيكره الرجل منكم البعث فيها فيتخلص من قومه ثم يتصفح القبائل يعرض نفسه عليهم يقول من أكفيه بعث كذا من أكفيه بعث كذا ألا وذلك الأجير إلى آخر قطرة من دمه
[Its chain is daif]. Ahmad transmitted it (5/413) through the narration of Muhammad bin Harb, with the same wording.Abu Sawra, the nephew of Abu Ayub, is daif (Taqrib).
