The prayers were originally fifty, the bath after sexual impurity was seven times, and washing urine from a garment was seven times. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept asking until the prayers were reduced to five, the bath after sexual impurity to once, and washing urine from a garment to once.
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا أيوب بن جابر عن عبد الله بن عصم
كانت الصلاة خمسين والغسل من الجنابة سبع مرار وغسل البول من الثوب سبع مرار فلم يزل رسول الله ﷺ يسأل حتى جعلت الصلاة خمسا والغسل من الجنابة مرة وغسل البول من الثوب مرة
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Ahmad reported it in 2/109 from the hadith of Ayub bin Jabir, and he is daif as stated in Taqrib Tahdhib and elsewhere.
