He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then went away and returned a year later with his condition and appearance greatly changed. He said, "Messenger of Allah, do you not recognize me?"The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Who are you?"He replied, "I am the Bahili who came to you last year."The Prophet ﷺ said, "What has changed you? You used to be of fine appearance."He answered, "I have not eaten any food except at night since I parted from you."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Why have you tormented yourself?" Then he said, "Fast the month of patience and one day of every month."The man said, "Give me more, for I have strength."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Fast two days."He said, "Give me more."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Fast three days."He said, "Give me more."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Fast from the sacred months and break, fast from the sacred months and break, fast from the sacred months and break." He gestured with his three fingers, closing them together and then releasing them.
حدثنا موسى بن إسمعيل حدثنا حماد عن سعيد الجريري عن أبي السليل عن مجيبة الباهلية
أنه أتى رسول الله ﷺ ثم انطلق فأتاه بعد سنة وقد تغيرت حاله وهيئته فقال يا رسول الله أما تعرفني قال ومن أنت قال أنا الباهلي الذي جئتك عام الأول قال فما غيرك وقد كنت حسن الهيئة قال ما أكلت طعاما إلا بليل منذ فارقتك فقال رسول الله ﷺ لم عذبت نفسك ثم قال صم شهر الصبر ويوما من كل شهر قال زدني فإن بي قوة قال صم يومين قال زدني قال صم ثلاثة أيام قال زدني قال صم من الحرم واترك صم من الحرم واترك صم من الحرم واترك وقال بأصابعه الثلاثة فضمها ثم أرسلها
