I witnessed the Eid prayer with Umar. He began with the prayer before the sermon, then said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days. As for the day of Adha, you eat from the meat of your sacrifices, and as for the day of Fitr, it is your breaking of the fast."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد وزهير بن حرب وهذا حديثه قالا حدثنا سفيان عن الزهري
شهدت العيد مع عمر فبدأ بالصلاة قبل الخطبة ثم قال إن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن صيام هذين اليومين أما يوم الأضحى فتأكلون من لحم نسككم وأما يوم الفطر ففطركم من صيامكم
It was narrated by Muslim, Fasting, chapter on the prohibition of fasting on the two days of Eid, no. 1137, and Bukhari, Fasting, chapter on fasting on the day of Eid al-Fitr, no. 1990, from the hadith of Zuhri, through this same chain.
