His uncle reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you is fasting, let him break his fast with dates. If he does not find dates, then with water, for water is purifying."

عمها قال قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا كان أحدكم صائما فليفطر على التمر فإن لم يجد التمر فعلى الماء فإن الماء طهور
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Fasting, in the chapter on what is recommended for breaking the fast, hadith 695, and Ibn Majah, hadith 1699, from the hadith of Asim al-Ahwal with this wording. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith 2067, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith 892, and Hakim, according to the criterion of Bukhari, 1/431, and Dhahabi agreed with him.Rubab is trustworthy. Bukhari, Abu Hatim Razi, and Ibn Khuzayma affirmed her reliability by grading her hadith sahih, and whoever claimed otherwise was mistaken.
