Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Regarding the verse "And upon those who are able to fast, a ransom of feeding a poor person" [Baqarah 2:184], he said, "This was a concession granted to the elderly man and the elderly woman who were still capable of fasting, allowing them to break their fast and instead feed a poor person for each day. The same applies to the pregnant woman and the nursing mother when they fear for themselves."
