Zayd bin Haritha set out for Mecca and brought back the daughter of Hamza.Jafar said, "I will take her. I have the greater right to her, for she is my cousin, and her maternal aunt is my wife. The maternal aunt holds the place of a mother."Ali said, "I have the greater right to her. She is my cousin, and the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is my wife, and she has the greater right to her."Zayd said, "I have the greater right to her. I am the one who set out for her, traveled, and brought her back."Then the Prophet ﷺ came out, and he mentioned a hadith in which he said, "As for the girl, I rule that she goes to Jafar, so that she may be with her maternal aunt, for the maternal aunt holds the place of a mother."
