Rukana bin Abd Yazid divorced his wife Suhaymah with an irrevocable divorce, then informed the Prophet ﷺ of what he had done and said, "By Allah, I intended only a single divorce."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "By Allah, did you intend only a single divorce?"Rukana replied, "By Allah, I intended only a single divorce."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned her to him. He then divorced her a second time during the era of Umar, and a third time during the era of Uthman.

أن ركانة بن عبد يزيد طلق امرأته سهيمة البتة فأخبر النبي ﷺ بذلك وقال والله ما أردت إلا واحدة فقال رسول الله ﷺ والله ما أردت إلا واحدة فقال ركانة والله ما أردت إلا واحدة فردها إليه رسول الله ﷺ فطلقها الثانية في زمان عمر والثالثة في زمان عثمان
Referencing, [its chain is hasan]. Daraqutni narrated it in 4/33, no. 3933, from the hadith of Shafii through this route, and it also appears in Umm 5/118, 137, 260, 137, 260, and 7/35, and in Musnad Shafii, p. 268. Daraqutni also transmitted, with a sahih chain, from Abu Dawud that he said, "This is a sahih hadith," and it was criticized on grounds that do not invalidate it.
