When a woman among the Jews menstruated, they would put her out of the house and would not eat with her, drink with her, or share the house with her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about this, and Allah revealed, "They ask you about menstruation. Say, it is harm, so keep away from women during menstruation" [Baqarah 2:222], to the end of the verse. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Live with them in the houses and do everything except intercourse."The Jews said, "This man does not want to leave anything of our practice without going against us in it."So Usayd bin Hudayr and Abbad bin Bishr came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, the Jews are saying such and such. Should we not have intercourse with them during menstruation?"The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed color until we thought he had become angry with them. They left, and a gift of milk happened to be brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he sent after them, and we knew then that he was not angry with them.
