Umar bin Khattab sat in the same spot where you are now sitting and said, "I will not leave until I distribute the wealth of the Kaabah."I said, "You will not do that."He replied, "I most certainly will."I said again, "You will not do it."He asked, "Why not?"I said, "Because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw its place, and so did Abu Bakr
, and both of them were in greater need of the wealth than you, yet neither of them took it out."So he stood up and left.
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Ibn Majah reported it in the Book of the Rites of Hajj, Chapter on the Wealth of the Kaaba, no. 3116, from the hadith of Abdul-Rahman Muharibi, through the same route, and it is also in Musnad Ahmad, 3/410.Muharibi was a mudallis and he narrated using "an" (indicating a suspicion of concealment in the chain), and the hadith of Bukhari, nos. 1594 and 7275, makes this hadith unnecessary.
