A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what clothing a person in the state of ihram should avoid wearing.He replied, "He must not wear a shirt, a hooded cloak, trousers, a turban, or any garment touched by wars dye or saffron. Nor should he wear leather socks, unless he cannot find sandals. Whoever cannot find sandals may wear leather socks, but he should cut them so they fall below the ankles."

سأل رجل رسول الله ﷺ ما يترك المحرم من الثياب فقال لا يلبس القميص ولا البرنس ولا السراويل ولا العمامة ولا ثوبا مسه ورس ولا زعفران ولا الخفين إلا لمن لا يجد النعلين فمن لم يجد النعلين فليلبس الخفين وليقطعهما حتى يكونا أسفل من الكعبين
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Clothing, chapter on turbans, hadith no. 5806, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hajj, chapter on what may be worn by one in ihram for Hajj or Umrah, hadith no. 1177, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, with the same wording.
