The Prophet ﷺ entered the state of ihram for an Umrah, while his companions entered ihram for Hajj.
حدثنا ابن معاذ أخبرنا أبي حدثنا شعبة عن مسلم القري سمع
أهل النبي ﷺ بعمرة وأهل أصحابه بحج
Reported by Muslim in Hajj, chapter on temporary marriage during Hajj [Mutah of Hajj], h: 1238, from Ibn Muaz, through this same chain.
