A complaint was brought to the Prophet ﷺ about a man who senses something during the prayer to the point that it seems real to him. He said, "He should not break off the prayer unless he hears a sound or detects an odor."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد ومحمد بن أحمد بن أبي بن خلف قالا حدثنا سفيان عن الزهري عن سعيد بن المسيب و
شكي إلى النبي ﷺ الرجل يجد الشيء في الصلاة حتى يخيل إليه فقال لا ينفتل حتى يسمع صوتا أو يجد ريحا
Bukhari narrated it in "Wudu," chapter "One does not perform wudu because of doubt until one is certain," hadith no. 137, and Muslim in "Menstruation," chapter "Evidence that one who is certain of purity and then doubts... etc," hadith no. 361, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, with the same chain.
