The Messenger of Allah ﷺ designated al-Aqiq as the miqat for the people of the East.
حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن حنبل حدثنا وكيع حدثنا سفيان عن يزيد بن أبي زياد عن محمد بن علي بن عبد الله بن عباس
وقت رسول الله ﷺ لأهل المشرق العقيق
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Tirmidhi narrated it, in the book of Hajj, chapter on what has been said about the miqats for ihram for the people of distant lands, hadith no. 832, from the hadith of Waki with this chain, and he said, hasan.Yazid bin Abu Ziyad is daif, well known for it, disguised his sources in transmission, suffered confusion of memory in his old age, and was an innovator.
