During the early days of the Hajj, people used to conduct trade at Mina, Arafah, the market of Dhu al-Majaz, and the various Hajj seasons. They became apprehensive about engaging in commerce while in a state of consecration, so Allah, glorified be He, revealed, "There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord" [Baqarah 2:198], referring to the seasons of Hajj.He said, Ubayd bin Umayr told me that he used to recite it this way in the codex.
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا حماد بن مسعدة حدثنا ابن أبي ذئب عن عطاء بن أبي رباح عن عبيد بن عمير
أن الناس في أول الحج كانوا يتبايعون بمنى وعرفة وسوق ذي المجاز ومواسم الحج فخافوا البيع وهم حرم فأنزل الله سبحانه {ليس عليكم جناح أن تبتغوا فضلا من ربكم} في مواسم الحج قال فحدثني عبيد بن عمير أنه كان يقرؤها في المصحف
Sourcing, [sahih] Hakim narrated it (1/449) from the hadith of Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Dhib, with this chain, and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (2054), and Hakim said it meets the standard of the two sheikhs, and Dhahabi agreed with him. The hadith has a corroborating witness in Bukhari (1770).
