Abu Hurairah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The needy person is not the one whom a date or two, or a bite or two, will turn away. The needy person is the one who asks nothing from people, and whose condition goes unnoticed so that he might be given something." He added, "Rather, the needy person is the one who restrains himself from asking."Musaddad added in his version, "He is the one who has nothing to make him self-sufficient, who does not ask, and whose need is not known so that charity might be given to him. That is the one who is deprived." Musaddad did not mention "the one who restrains himself from asking."
