Abu Saeed Khudri reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform itikaf during the middle ten days of Ramadan. One year he performed itikaf, and when it was the night of the twenty-first, the night on which he would normally leave his itikaf, he said, "Whoever has performed itikaf with me, let him continue into the last ten days. I was shown this night, then it was made me to forget it. I saw myself prostrating in water and mud on its morning, so seek it in every odd night."Abu Saeed said, "The sky rained that night, and the mosque had a roof of palm branches, so the mosque leaked."Abu Saeed said, "My own eyes saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with traces of water and mud on his forehead and nose on the morning of the twenty-first."

حدثنا القعنبي عن مالك عن يزيد بن عبد الله بن الهاد عن محمد بن إبراهيم بن الحارث التيمي عن أبي سلمة بن عبد الرحمن

عن أبي سعيد الخدري قال

كان رسول الله ﷺ يعتكف العشر الأوسط من رمضان فاعتكف عاما حتى إذا كانت ليلة إحدى وعشرين وهي الليلة التي يخرج فيها من اعتكافه قال من كان اعتكف معي فليعتكف العشر الأواخر وقد رأيت هذه الليلة ثم أنسيتها وقد رأيتني أسجد من صبيحتها في ماء وطين فالتمسوها في كل وتر قال أبو سعيد فمطرت السماء من تلك الليلة وكان المسجد على عريش فوكف المسجد فقال أبو سعيد فأبصرت عيناي رسول الله ﷺ وعلى جبهته وأنفه أثر الماء والطين من صبيحة إحدى وعشرين
