Ayesha reported,

She was asked about the night prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and she replied, "He would pray Isha in congregation, then return to his family and pray four units of prayer. Then he would retire to his bed and sleep, with his water for purification covered beside his head and his toothstick laid out, until Allah would rouse him at whatever hour of the night He chose. He would then use the toothstick, perform a thorough ablution, and stand at his place of prayer.He would pray eight units, reciting in each of them the Opening of the Book and a surah from the Quran, as much as Allah willed. He would not sit during any of them until the eighth, and he would not offer the closing salutation. Then he would recite in the ninth, sit, and supplicate with whatever Allah willed him to ask, beseech, and earnestly request. Then he would give a single, loud closing salutation, almost waking the household with the force of his salam.Then, while seated, he would recite the Opening of the Book and bow while still seated. Then he would recite a second time, bow, and prostrate while seated. Then he would supplicate with whatever Allah willed him to ask, then give the closing salutation and depart.This remained the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until he grew heavier with age. Then he reduced the nine by two, making it six and seven, with his two seated units, and he continued in this way until he passed away ﷺ."

سئلت عن صلاة رسول الله ﷺ في جوف الليل فقالت كان يصلي العشاء في جماعة ثم يرجع إلى أهله فيركع أربع ركعات ثم يأوي إلى فراشه وينام وطهوره مغطى عند رأسه وسواكه موضوع حتى يبعثه الله ساعته التي يبعثه من الليل فيتسوك ويسبغ الوضوء ثم يقوم إلى مصلاه فيصلي ثماني ركعات يقرأ فيهن بأم الكتاب وسورة من القرآن وما شاء الله ولا يقعد في شيء منها حتى يقعد في الثامنة ولا يسلم ويقرأ في التاسعة ثم يقعد فيدعو بما شاء الله أن يدعوه ويسأله ويرغب إليه ويسلم تسليمة واحدة شديدة يكاد يوقظ أهل البيت من شدة تسليمه ثم يقرأ وهو قاعد بأم الكتاب ويركع وهو قاعد ثم يقرأ الثانية فيركع ويسجد وهو قاعد ثم يدعو ما شاء الله أن يدعو ثم يسلم وينصرف فلم تزل تلك صلاة رسول الله ﷺ حتى بدن فنقص من التسع ثنتين فجعلها إلى الست والسبع وركعتيه وهو قاعد حتى قبض على ذلك ﷺ
