Regarding this verse, "Their sides forsake their beds as they call upon their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend from what We have provided them" [Sajdah 32:16], he said, "They used to stay awake between the Maghrib and Isha prayers, praying." Hasan used to say it referred to standing in prayer at night.

في هذه الآية {تتجافى جنوبهم عن المضاجع يدعون ربهم خوفا وطمعا ومما رزقناهم ينفقون} قال كانوا يتيقظون ما بين المغرب والعشاء يصلون وكان الحسن يقول قيام الليل
[Sahih] Bayhaqi reported it, 19/3, from the hadith of Abu Dawud through this chain, and the hadith has corroborating narrations in Tirmidhi, no. 3196, and elsewhere. Qatada and Saeed bin Abu Aruba are both mudallis narrators and they narrated with "an" (an-anah).
