The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque and saw a rope stretched between two pillars.He asked, "What is this rope?"He was told, "Messenger of Allah, this belongs to Hamna bint Jahsh. She prays here, and when she grows weary she clings to it for support."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let her pray as long as she has the strength, and when she tires, let her sit down."Ziyad reported that he asked, "What is this?"They replied, "It belongs to Zaynab. She prays, and when she becomes lazy or weak she holds on to it."He said, "Untie it." Then he said, "Let one of you pray as long as he has energy, and when he becomes lazy or weak, let him sit down."

دخل رسول الله ﷺ المسجد وحبل ممدود بين ساريتين فقال ما هذا الحبل فقيل يا رسول الله هذه حمنة بنت جحش تصلي فإذا أعيت تعلقت به فقال رسول الله ﷺ لتصل ما أطاقت فإذا أعيت فلتجلس قال زياد فقال ما هذا فقالوا لزينب تصلي فإذا كسلت أو فترت أمسكت به فقال حلوه فقال ليصل أحدكم نشاطه فإذا كسل أو فتر فليقعد
Reported by Muslim in the Book of the Travelers' Prayer, chapter on the merit of consistent action such as standing in night prayer and the like, no. 784, from the hadith of Ismail bin Ibrahim Ibn Ulaya through this route, and Bukhari related it, no. 1150, from the hadith of Abdul-Aziz through this route.
