They set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the expedition of Tabuk, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers. One day he delayed the prayer, then came out and prayed Dhuhr and Asr together. Then he went back inside, came out again, and prayed Maghrib and Isha together.
حدثنا القعنبي عن مالك عن أبي الزبير المكي عن أبي الطفيل عامر بن واثلة أن
أنهم خرجوا مع رسول الله ﷺ في غزوة تبوك فكان رسول الله ﷺ يجمع بين الظهر والعصر والمغرب والعشاء فأخر الصلاة يوما ثم خرج فصلى الظهر والعصر جميعا ثم دخل ثم خرج فصلى المغرب والعشاء جميعا
Muslim narrated it in "Prayer of the Traveler," chapter on combining two prayers while resident, no. 706, from the hadith of Abu Zubayr, transmitted through him. It also appears in the Muwatta (Yahya) 1/143, 144 (and Qanabi, p. 183).
