I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ descend from the pulpit, and a man would approach him with a need, so he would stand with him until he had fulfilled his need, then he would go and pray.
حدثنا مسلم بن إبراهيم عن جرير هو ابن حازم لا أدري كيف قاله مسلم أو لا عن ثابت
رأيت رسول الله ﷺ ينزل من المنبر فيعرض له الرجل في الحاجة فيقوم معه حتى يقضي حاجته ثم يقوم فيصلي
[Its chain is daif]. Reported by Tirmidhi, Prayer, chapter on what has been said about speaking after the imam descends from the pulpit, no. 517, Nasai, no. 1420, and Ibn Majah, no. 1117, from the hadith of Jareer bin Hazim through this route. He made clear that he heard it directly, as recorded by Bayhaqi, 3/224. Tirmidhi said, "Gharib." Bukhari and others graded the hadith as daif. So the hadith has a hidden defect, and the hadith of Muslim, no. 876, makes it unnecessary.
