I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the pulpit, and he did no more than this, meaning the index finger next to the thumb.

Muslim recorded it in the Book of Jumuah, chapter on shortening the prayer and sermon, no. 874, from the hadith of Husayn Ibn Abdul-Rahman with this wording, and Ibn Mulaqqin graded it sahih in Tuhfat al-Muhtaj, no. 614.
