The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you prays and does not know whether he added or omitted something, let him perform two prostrations while seated. And if Satan comes to him and says, 'You have broken your wudu,' let him say, 'You lie,' unless he detects an odor with his nose or hears a sound with his ear."This is the wording of Abban's narration.
حدثنا محمد بن العلاء حدثنا إسمعيل بن إبراهيم حدثنا هشام الدستوائي حدثنا يحيى بن أبي كثير حدثنا عياض ح و حدثنا موسى بن إسمعيل حدثنا أبان حدثنا يحيى عن هلال بن عياض
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال إذا صلى أحدكم فلم يدر زاد أم نقص فليسجد سجدتين وهو قاعد فإذا أتاه الشيطان فقال إنك قد أحدثت فليقل كذبت إلا ما وجد ريحا بأنفه أو صوتا بأذنه وهذا لفظ حديث أبان
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Tirmidhi transmitted it, in the Book of Prayer, in the chapter on one who is in doubt about adding or omitting, hadith no. 396, from the hadith of Ismail bin Ibrahim, with this wording, and he said, "Hasan." Hakim graded it sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, 1/324, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
